Follow today’s news liveGet our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcastGirls are now seeing porn for the first time at 13.6 years, on average – two years younger than they were in 2018.And more than 70% of young people say porn often shows aggression and violence towards women, a new report from Our Watch has found.Our Watch’s concern is with the representation of certain people, particularly women, rather than porn itself.It’s the frequent viewing of violent porn, that is sexist and derogatory, [and] associated with a greater likelihood of men and boys holding attitudes that can lead to violence against women.The line between IRL [in real life] and online is very blurry, so we can’t just say certain types of porn are bad… we’ve actually got to take proactive actions across the rest of a young person’s life so they can critique it.I want to assure the community that we are doing everything we can to minimise the impact of this on their care.NSW Health is working hard to ensure postponed surgeries are rescheduled as quickly as reasonably possible.
